Epson T007201 Black Ink Cartridge Twin Pack (T007201-Bundle) Review

I have tried several other generic inks for my Epson printer. While they are cheaper and produce acceptable results, they do not compare with the Epson quality. Generics will use more ink and therefore empty much faster than Epson. I have also found that my printer clogs up more frequently when using generic ink. Overall I highly recommend Epson ink cartridges for those special pictures. Frank Loomans

Recieved cartridges on time but the first time I inserted the Black cartridge, the printer did not recognize it being full. It keeps thinking the cartridge is empty and not allowing me to print. There is no savings here, just a pain in the a**.

Ink works great in my Canon MP500. The Blacks aren't as black as the canon ink but that can only really be noticed when you hold pictures printed with both inks side by side. I don't print pictures at home though, so this ink is great for me! (I like the glossy professionally printed pictures for my walls better.)

Brother IntelliFAX 2800 - Fax / copier - B/W - laser - copying (up to): 10 ppm - 200 sheets - 14.4 Kbps - refurbished
Average Reviews:

If you need a dedicated fax machine for a small or medium sized off then the Brother 2800 may be just the right choice. It is a solid performer that offers a low cost per page and includes pretty much every feature that you would need in a black and white fax machine.
Nowadays it is not particularly sexy to "just" be a fax machine, but in many situations you are better off having a fax machine seperate from your copy machine, seperate from your printer. At our 20 person office that is certainly true. We had a multifunction machine and it was used to much which created lots of complexity for those of us sharing it. LInes waiting for a fax to be received so we could print, waiting to make copies while a long document is printing, and confusion over how to install and setup access for everyone's PC.
We tried to find a less expensive standalone machine but could not find one that seemed well buiilt and cost effective. The color fax machines are ink jet based and cost a lot more per page. My experience with inkjets is that they also require more maintenance. The Borthe 2800 has a straight through paper path which has not jammed for us, and we've had no issues with paper feeding.
I think that for a really small office of 1-5 people that a multi-function unit makes sense, but for anything larger you need seperate machines. If that's the case, the Brother machine is a good choice in fax machine with its laser output, high paper volume, full feature set, and relatively simple interface.

A solid laser-fax machine at an accessible price, the 2800 zips out 10 pages per minute, printing on standard plain paper. Its price makes it ideal for home office use--finally, an affordable alternative to thermal transfer or ink-jet machines for those of us in small offices.
The 14.4K modem, integrated telephone handset, fax forwarding, paging and remote retrieval, 108 auto-dial locations, and broadcasting to up to 158 locations all combine to make the 2800 an impressive value. The 2800 is compatible with call waiting/caller ID and distinctive ring. Other features include a 20-page automatic document feeder and a 200-sheet paper tray, accommodating both letter and legal-size paper.

HP C3150 Photosmart C3150 All In One Review

HP C3150 Photosmart C3150 All In One
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After owning a seperate scanner and printer for awhile, I bought this combined unit to save some desk space. The price seemed right, and I didn't need the extra fancy features of the more expensive units, such as the LCD screen etc.
To me, HP should have removed the memory card slots and put more engineering into the paper feed tray. My unit has worked flawlessly for about a year (or maybe less). I was very excited about the copy feature and scanner as it worked so well.
But now as I sit, the paper tray will not feed paper. One sheet, multiple sheets, the tray will not grab the paper. I suspect to fix this unit, it will cost more than what I paid for it originally. The scanner still works wonderfully.
If you search online, there are some other people that have experienced this same thing. I haven't even burned thru the original ink cartridges yet. Very disappointing.

Hewlett Packard DeskJet 648c Printer Review

Hewlett Packard DeskJet 648c Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's not just a printer, it's an HP printer!
Anyone who decides to buy a new printer must feel a little at a loss with today's abundance of printers. Good printers. It all boils down to a simple question - how much are you going to spend for your printer? HP 648C is efficient, HP-smart and relatively cheap - under $100.
DRIVERS: A few users have been confused with the installation process and apparent mislocation of a printer driver. All HP printers from 64xC series have the same driver. This obviously applies to 640C, 642C and 648C. There are differences between these printers, but the driver is the same. DO NOT panic during setup when you notice that Windows installs 640C driver for your 648C printer! It's all as it is supposed to be.
WINDOWS 2000: Although 648C is Win2000 compatible, a proper version of driver is not included on the CD. Instead, as noted on quick-installation poster, you have to go online, visit HP support page, go to the drivers section and download a proper version of a driver. All other software included on CD is designed to work in Win98 environment, and thus you will have NO USE of extra features included, while working in Windows 2000. Fear not, the printer works flawlessly - and isn't it what we wanted?
SPEED: In the normal mode (default), the printer is slow, about 3ppm. The output is clear and crisp, though. This is not a disadvantage. Affordable printers cost little exactly because they aren't superspeed dragons with photoCD abilities. Customers targeted by HP in the case of 648C do not usually need speed-dragons. This printer works well and is cheap. This really counts. Under DRAFT mode, it is as fast as you might want it at home, provided you don't print masses of documents. In that case, a laser printer would be a better solution.
DESIGN: 648C is sleek and fits nicely to an HP Pavilion computer, if you have one. Not that this information is terribly important... :)
USB/SERIAL: Contrary to what some customers said, I haven't had any problems with USB connectivity between 648C and my Windows 2000 computer. As soon as I plugged in my USB cable, Win2k recognized my printer and installed it in no time. As I said before, YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD WINDOWS 2000 DRIVER FIRST.
SUMMARY: You get more than what you paid for. It's HP's cheapest model, but provides their famous quality. Go for it if you do not necessarily have your wallet bursting with $ notes. You will be happy

HP Color LaserJet 2550L Printer Review

HP Color LaserJet 2550L Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's October 2004 and I've had my 2550L for 3 months now. Overall I'm very satisfied with the product. I have it plugged into my USB 2.0 port and it prints quickly. Also the quality of the text and pictures are good. I selected it because of it's size, USB 2.0 compatible and price. It was one of the least expensive color laser printers on the market and one of the smallest. It really is quite amazing how HP has figured out how to put all four color cartridges in such a compact package.
I print mostly black and white but wanted the option of color without the smearing ink of an ink jet printer. (I also don't like ink jets because you have to clean the heads and replace the cartridges too often.) This printer prints black and white faster and color a little slower and that was just right for my needs.
I've owned Epson, Brother, and Panasonic printers before. This is my first HP and I really do notice a difference in the quality of the build. I would definitely buy a HP printer again.
Why 4 stars instead of 5? Well this model doesn't come with the paper tray that mounts to the bottom. I didn't think it would bother me but it did. So I wound up buying the paper tray seperate. I should have bought one of the other 2550s that included it to start with because it was tough to locate the paper tray option and buy it on its own. It also cost me more all together vs buying a higher end 2550 that came with it already.
One thing that I didn't read in the other reviews that I would have liked to have known is that the printer cycles periodically. It intially scared my wife and I in the middle of the night because we heard noises in our home that we had never heard before. It was the printer cycling. While it is relatively noisy I don't think it would have stopped me from buying it, but I would have liked to have known in advance.

HP LaserJet 1022n Monochrome Network Printer (Q5913A#ABA) Review

HP LaserJet 1022n Monochrome Network Printer (Q5913A#ABA)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had bought a HP 1020 to replace my old HP 895cse. I had run my 895cse through a Netgear USB print server. After buying the 1020 I found out that it was not compatible with USB print servers. I tried it on the Netgear and a Linksys product and both became unavailable after powering up the printer. You could see the print server until the printer was powered up and then the print server was unreachable.
I was impressed with the 1020 so I wanted to stay with the printer but without the ability to network it was not usefull. I looked into network printer options and came across the 1022N. Basically the same printer as the 1020 with more memory, more pages per minute, and a built in 10/100 print server.
The printer is very compact, is well built, and setup on the network was a snap. The printer is a little pricey but for a nice home network laser printer it's not too bad.
I would recommend it for anyone looking for a nice home printer that allows for easy networking.

HP OfficeJet K80 All-in-One Review

HP OfficeJet K80 All-in-One
Average Reviews:

I've had MFs for a number of years, most recently a Brother MFC7200. That unit offered all the same features as this HP K80, but at twice the price. Despite that, it was only mediocre at performing its tasks, save its poor performance as a scanner. The K80 on the other hand is an excellent printer, fast, clean and quiet. Its fax features are also topnotch, with the 33.6 faxmodem allowing for 3 seconds per page faxing. The scanning clarity and speed is the best of any sheetfed unit I've seen, and copying with and without enlargement is also pretty darned amazing at this price.
However, what really makes the whole pkg so nice is the software that runs quietly in the background and only pops up when needed. When it makes its appearance, it really simplifies whatever task you're working on and obviates the need for any kind of manual.

However, the ink level indicator shows it's empty when there is still a lot left in them.
When the indicator show the cart. is near half empty, it showed completely empty all of sudden. So, I had to put in a new one. What a waste!!
In my opinion, it's not worth it to buy these generic one.

I have owned an HP 722C printer for 6 years or so. It has performed flawlessly from the moment I got it. Besides standard printing, I have used it along with premium photo paper to product outstanding color photo prints. If you can get one for a low price (under $50), it should be a good purchase. If you have to pay much more than that, you may want to consider one of the newer products instead.

HP Deskjet 3820 Inkjet Printer Review

HP Deskjet 3820 Inkjet Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I work in IT. I recommend this printer for its price and for its quality. With 4800X1200 print resolution, the 3820 is able to print photo quality pictures at a text printer price. The ink cartridges are pretty big too (which is nice, because they are about $30 a piece). The newer HP printers use less ink than the older models. So long as your print isn't solid ink, it is pretty much dry coming off the rack. The paper tray folds in on itself, so when you are not using it, you can save some space.
Overall, this is a good little printer and well worth the money. It has good features and is relatively compact.

HP DeskJet 3650 Color Inkjet Printer Review

HP DeskJet 3650 Color Inkjet Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At the "FastNormal" setting, the print quality is close to LASER quality while the speed is incredible. I upgraded from a Canon BJC-4000 that has pumped out thousands of pages for me since 1994 and has put me through grade school, high school, and a 4 year engineering university. If it (the BJC-4000) were a live person, I'd buy it a six-pack - so it doesn't come easy for me to say that the 3650 is a big step up from the BJC-4000.
I have not put the 3650 through any longevity tests, but installation, performance, and quality are superb. I ran into zero problems installing it on an XP Pro SP-1 PC, and didn't run into any problems sharing the printer over a LAN.
I did run into an annoyance:
When printing with just the black cartridge installed, it would always tell me that I'm missing the color cartridge.
Also whenever the printer attempts to clear the print head, it would blow out a huge wad of ink onto the pad on the left side of the printer. Each HP #27 cartridge is only 10mL (the BJC-4000's BC-20 was 22mL and would last me approximately 1000-1500 pages at draft quality text) so each drop that it wastes costs me a few dozen pages.
You must install the drivers FIRST before connecting the printer to your PC via USB. I've tested this printer on my Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop and my self-built AMD XP 2100+ PC. Both use Windows XP Pro. The printer also works flawlessly over a LAN.
After several weeks of testing I'd like to add the "X" button on the printer is a true godsend - it's for cancelling print jobs. Rather than going to the Control Panel to manually cancel a job, hitting that button stops the job and clears it from the queue w/o any problems over a LAN.
Also if you print over a LAN and the printer is OFF, it will turn on by itself. This is a big plus because I don't always have the luxury of working at the PC where the printer is physically installed.
The only complaints I have is that the paper loading mechanism sounds like someone banging on plastic pots and pans - it's very very loud!! Also it tends to gobble ink cartridge fluid rather quickly but it prints faster than the HP Laserjet V I have at work, and with the quality set at NORMAL or FastNormal, it rivals that of laser printers.
Overall I give it 5 stars out of 5 - if you know how to properly install USB devices on PCs then you'll get it to work. I wouldn't recommend installing it on an older PC that isn't running Windows 2000 or XP.
UPDATE: After using it for a longer period of time, I did in fact notice that the small ink cartridge capacity limits its maximum time for operation in an office environment.
The cost is not an issue since I found a bulk supplier of ink refills that would save me a bundle. What was important was the ease of changing cartridges (pull the lid and the cartridge holder comes into changing position) and the quality of printing w/ non-standard ink.
Make sure you clean the cartridge if you start to see lines in the print out. I noticed a strip of dried ink on the head unit and cleaned that off with some water and a tissue.
Overall the printer is STILL exceeding my expectations.
My impression of this printer:
Low price, Hewlett Packard quality + reliability.

Brother HL-5140 Laser Printer Review

Brother HL-5140 Laser Printer
Average Reviews:

ADDENDUM TO MY REVIEW BELOW ON 09/03/04:
Based on my recent experience, I can no longer recommend this printer.
After using the HL-5140 for a couple of months, my initial favorable opinion of the printer has changed drastically. After putting about 4500-5000 pages through it I began to experience frequent paper jams using standard 8.5 x 11 multipurpose paper.
Clearing the jams proved to be rather difficult and time consuming, invariably requiring the removal of the drum/toner unit (which can be a bit of a wrestling match).
After printing about 7500 pages the printer totally locked up on me, indicating it was out of paper even though the tray was more than half full.
Perhaps the unit I purchased was a "lemon." In their defense, and their customer service is very good, Brother did offer to replace it. However, I declined their offer. After using it for awhile I was not impressed with the 5140's design or function, and I had serious doubts that any new printer they sent me would perform any better.
Being a medical transcriptionist who is paid on a production basis, I absolutely depend on a completely reliable laser printer that is fast and economical. After the Brother HL-5140 failed me, I purchased an HP LaserJet 1300 that I'm ecstatically happy with.
After 5000 pages, the HP 1300 hasn't jammed even once, the output looks great, and it's the fastest and quietest laser printer I've ever used.
MY NEW RATING:
The Brother HL-5140 gets two thumbs down after a very exhaustive practical test.
The HP LaserJet 1300 gets two thumbs up as a slightly more expensive, but much better-designed and more reliable printer.
FOLLOWING IS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW OF THE HL-5140:
>> There are a ton of people out there running home businesses like me (I'm a full-time medical transcriptionist)who need the speed and economy of a B&W laser printer, but don't want or need a $500-1,000-plus "office-type" unit.
Enter the Brother HL-5140, the perfect, affordable, reliable B&W laser printer for a small business that does a lot of printing (where the cost of ink jet cartridges and slow printing can be VERY expensive).
Several years ago, typical of my venerable HP LaserJet 6P that is still working very well, HP produced great inexpensive laser printers while Brother followed their lead and made great products too.
Unfortunately, HP decided to focus on a very profitable "niche market" a couple of years ago and started making a bunch of cheap plastic printers that would have more consumer appeal when it comes to printing photos instead of continuing to make top-quality low to moderate-cost B&W laser printers.
But Brother has continued to make reliable printers that are actually made of metal -- what a concept. My Brother 5140 weighs in at about 24 pounds, it's made of metal and there's nothing flimsy about it.
So here are the pros and cons of the Brother HL-5140:
PROS:
1. Everything that Brother purports to deliver in terms of printing speed for the 5140 would appear to be accurate. This is one VERY FAST laser printer (rated at 21 ppm).
2. The best thing about the 5140 is how easy it is to install and set up. It's all completely intuitive and the enclosed installation CD makes the process quick (15 minutes or less) and simple.
3. Most people won't care about this very obvious plus, but it's VERY important to some of us old dinosaurs who still use DOS programs. So I need to employ a printer that will accept a parallel connection instead of just USB.
I'm not really a dinosaur, and I use MS Word for everything else, but I still use WordPerfect 5.1 DOS for my work. So I need a printer that will connect on a parallel port and print out my work.
The 5140 with PCL-6 emulation supports all of the latest DOS printer drivers too. No problems printing from DOS in any application.
CONS:
As I've said, the 5140 gets my top rating and it's a definite buy. But there are a couple of things you might want to be aware of:
1. I haven't tried the feature, but other reviewers have given the printer a thumbs-down in terms of its rendition of graphics. Personally, I could care less. If I need graphics I'll use my inkjet printer instead.
2. The usual printout path up to the front output tray can tend to curl the printouts a bit more than you'd like depending on temperature and humidity.
All in all, it's a terrific printer.

The HL-5140 from Brother is a monochrome laser printer that features high quality print resolutions and a number of expandability options. Resolutions run as high as 2,400 x 600 dpi, thanks to Brother's HQ1200 technology, resulting in accurate and crisp images and text. Speeds of up to 21 ppm deliver documents quickly so that you're free to focus on other tasks.
With the 133 MHz Fujitsu SPARClite processor and 16 MB of internal memory (upgradeable to 144 MB), the HL-5140 is able to handle medium to large print jobs. Manual duplexing allows you to print double-sided documents. A 250-sheet standard input tray is accompanied by a single-sheet manual bypass tray and a 150-sheet output tray. An optional 250-sheet tray is also supported. The printer accepts a wide variety of paper types, including plain paper, envelopes, bond, transparencies, labels, and card stock. Supported sizes include letter, legal, executive, A4, A5, A6, and B6.
The HL-5140 connects to the host computer via either parallel or USB ports, and an automatic interface switching feature means you won't need to change any printer settings to print from either source. If you want to set up the printer on a network, optional Ethernet and wireless network interfaces are available. The 100/120 VAC 50/60 Hz power supply consumes about 460 watts of power during normal operation, about 75 watts during standby, and only 5 watts during sleep mode. Compatible with PC, Mac, and Linux operating systems, the HL-5140 also comes backed by a one-year limited express exchange warranty.
